1st International Postcolonial and Decolonial Meeting

The first edition of the Postcolonial and Decolonial Encounter took place in October 2019 and was born out of the theoretical questions posed by postcolonial and decolonial studies in order to foster discussion about the coloniality of power, being and knowledge. It brought together more than 500 people from different fields of knowledge, from Brazil and abroad, in round tables (Knowledge Exchange Rounds), conferences (Contemporary Dialogues), presentations of papers, book launches, cultural activities and a solidarity economy fair. The event was attended by a broad and plural audience of hundreds of people, including professors, researchers, activists and undergraduate and postgraduate students, including Africans and indigenous people, collectives and social movements. It brought together 28 speakers (4 conversation circles, 2 contemporary dialogues, 2 concerts and an art exhibition) and 77 research papers presented, as well as generating the publication of two books, a series of podcasts and consolidating a research network with university professors from all regions of Brazil and abroad who work in the event’s theoretical and practical field. The constitution of the Researchers’ Network resulted in the proposal that the event become a reference in the field, making it possible to hold the second edition in 2022.
