Decolonial Movements Extension Program: practices, dialogues and the feeling of thinking.
Coordinated by Prof. Cláudia Mortari (History Department).
1st Action – Armazém Coletivo Elza fair, coordinated by Prof. Juliana Crispe.
The Armazém Coletivo Elza fair aims to showcase handicrafts, art, fashion and cultural productions by black and indigenous women, as well as people from the LGBTQIA+ community. The fairs began in 2016 at the ‘Armazém Coletivo Elza’ Cultural Space with the aim of embracing fairgoers who find themselves without an exhibition space or who can’t afford the high prices of the elitist fairs in Florianópolis. Since 2022, the fairs have become nomadic, and the aim of holding them at UDESC is to bring students, teachers and the community closer to producers who carry special knowledge, in the face of two ancestries and experiences. The action is based on transdisciplinarity, interculturality and intersectionality. It is planned to hold three fairs per semester throughout the biennium.
2nd Action – Poetics of Relation Exhibition Circuit Project, coordinated by Prof. Juliana Crispe.
The Circuit of Exhibitions – ‘Poetics of Relation’ aims to promote the circulation and dissemination of post-colonial and decolonial science and culture, with an emphasis on African, Afro-diasporic, indigenous, feminist and diversity themes, through art exhibitions. ‘Poetics of Relation’ recalls the thinking of Eduardo Glissant when he tells us that contact between cultures reflects the effects of colonization in the contemporary world and that all identity unfolds in a relationship with the other. The subjectivities presented in the exhibitions aim to show through art that modernity, defined exclusively by imperialist Europe, has encountered obstacles and has come to an end, opening up space for protagonisms that have been crushed and hidden in our history, reverberating in the now the contaminations of differences and recognizing the abysses placed over these experiences. Rhizomatic, these poetics have their roots in many territories, beliefs, sexualities, uses of the body, and branch out and grow in the encounter with other surfaces, other cultures, rituals, the right to the body, social, educational, cultural and political space. The Circuit’s exhibitions will be held annually and may take place in more than one cultural space per year. The artists who take part will be selected through an open call for submissions and by curators. Black, indigenous, women and LGBTQIA+ artists will be selected; groups on the margins and historically invisible in the arts. The aim is to organize visits to the exhibitions by teachers and students from municipal and state schools.
3rd Action – 3rd International Post-Colonial and Decolonial Meeting (EPD), coordinated by Prof. Cláudia Mortari.
The event, held in person, aims to promote post-colonial and decolonial scientific and cultural production, circulation and dissemination, with an emphasis on African, Afro-diasporic and indigenous themes, intersected with LGBTQIAP+, gender, interracial and class themes. The aim is to encourage innovation, exchange and the production of plural epistemologies and transformative practices in the field of the Humanities, Education and Art among researchers, teachers and students from the undergraduate and postgraduate education network, social movements and black, African and indigenous collectives and artivists. There are plans to hold Round Tables, Contemporary Dialogues (Conferences), Thematic Symposia, a Music Festival, an Exhibition Circuit, a Solidarity Fair and book launches. In line with the event’s central objective of production, enhanced by its international character and the possibilities of circulating knowledge using information and communication technologies, the debates arising from the round tables and contemporary dialogues will be made available virtually through the institutional channel, Youtube Laboratório, making the audience reach much wider. The transdisciplinary event is in its 3rd edition and will be held in the 2nd semester of 2025, in conjunction with other extension programs developed at the AYA.
